disruptive thinking :: the innovator of open business

I am presenting a number of seminars across the country over the next couple of months at NRG Business Networks Ltd lunches. The seminar is titles "disruptive thinking :: the innovator of open business" and I have appended the seminar synopsis.

Charles Collins presents a provocative seminar that takes the principles of the open source software and applies it to commerce enabling companies to offer solutions beyond their capacity. The philosophy of “open business” is to create an environment built on trust that goes beyond the normal constraints of the traditional corporates, breaking down the barriers created within the cathedrals of big business allowing smaller organisations to offer viable alternatives within a dynamic enviroment.

The original concept has evolved from the model used by the open source software community and pays homage to Eric Raymonds book "The Cathedral and the Bazaar". The seminar also introduces a number of open source packages and projects:
  • apache
  • linux
  • thunderbird
  • firefox
  • sunbird
  • open office

Dates can be found on the NRG Business Networks website.

Open Source Software (OOS)

I am passionate about business, open source software, linux and web based technologies.
My business is built up on open source technologies and I have presented seminars across the United Kingdom promoting the use of open source software, including Bath University last year. I have put together a collection of useful sites that are either open source projects or articles about open source software.

Apache: web server created by eight students and now dominates server based platforms across the world.

Fedora (Linux distribution): an RPM based Linux ditribution.

LAMP: is an acronym for Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP, a popular development platform for web development teams. LAMP is the primary development enviroment Ayrmer Software uses and has allowed us to create sophisticated web based applications for businesses across Europe.

Mozilla Project: Firefox, Thunderbird & Sunbird, some of the great open source projects supported by the Mozilla Foundation.

OpenOffice.org: office suite that includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and database application.
